Programming!!!
I am sure you like programming if you're a geeky person like I am that loves computers, it's fun! Learning programming is like learning another language, it's pretty hard...
technical stuff...
Programming is just a way of speaking to the computer (or tablet, iPad, phone etc.), computer's don't understand English, they just understand code like this: 10100010101010000010010101110000. That's a big problem! What do we do? Of course programmers don't write 0s and 1s, they use what is called a high-level language (like Java, C / C++ etc.). Below are examples:
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
"Hello World! programs are programs that just print (display on the screen) two worlds: Hello World! Every programming language has a Hello World program that introduces you to the programming language. Below are some of the most common programming languages in the world and their Hello World programs.
Computer software languages:
C++ "Hello World!" program:
#include <iostream>
int main()
{
std::cout << "Hello World!"; <------------------------------------------------------------------- 5 lines of code!
}
Java "Hello World!" program:
class HelloWorldApp {
public static void main(String[] args) {
System.out.println("Hello World!"); } <--------------------------------- 4 lines of code!
}
Web development languages:
Python "Hello World!" program:
print "Hello, World!" <--------------------------------------------- Weird, only 1 line of code!?
HTML "Hello World!" program:
extensive:
<html>
<head>
<title>Hello World!</title>
</head>
<body> <------------------- 9 lines of code?!
<h1>Hi!</h1>
<p>Hello World!</p>
</body>
</html>
Note: It doesn't have to be THAT long, I can code sloppily and do this:
<p>Hello World!</p>
JavaScript "Hello World" program:
document.write("Hello world!")
--- or ---
alert("Hello world!")
--- or ---
var helloWorld = "Hello world!"
document.write(helloWorld)

Now, how do you translate the code that programmers can write and understand to the code that computer understands? You use what's called a "compiler", it's a piece of software that acts as a interpreter. I won't go into the details of compilers, but if you're curious, just do a Google search!
